We plead for Plaid

Queens ,when you think of plaid i bet you think “boyish” right ?
Well, there’s no denying that this bold, rugged print was initially very masculine, and that for many of us it's automatically associate with lumberjacks, Scotsmen, cowboys and farmers (an absolute nonsense under the tropics of course…). However,Plaid  can be surprisingly versatile once you know how to wear it.

Here are some basic suggestions to apply for ladies interested in wearing plaid:

How to choose them?
Limit the amount
Plaid is a bold pattern, so you should avoid overwhelming your look with too much of it. Either stick with one prominent plaid piece or several small plaid accessories.

Pair your plaid with neutral and solids colors
Other patterns will clash, causing your outfit to look confused and busy.
Choose your fabric carefully
Plaid flannels are common for cold weather, but plaid print also comes in lighter materials like cotton, which is more suitable for us under the tropics.

Pay attention to the print pattern and size
Of course Queens as usual choose whatever appeals to you most.
"Woven" styles mix multiple colors into one pattern and generally use large squares.
"Western" styles usually have smaller squares and only make use of one or two colors.

Pick the right color

Red and black plaid is the most traditional and works especially well in colder months, but it may look too rugged for some tastes.
Other traditional looks involve muted colors like navy, gray, brown, cream, and white. Light pastels and bright colors are more modern. These work best for warmer climates (do I need to point out the ones which are likely to suit us the most ?).

How to wear it

While many consider plaid to be a boyish print, the fashion-conscious woman can wear it and still look feminine .

Casual
It’s the most obvious style with the plaid. The challenge will be to keep the look as feminine as possible.
We have chosen as central piece a shirt. You have to consider its fitting.Loose shirts are more rugged and casual.
Fitted shirts are more stylish and easier to dress up.
Let's make it casual. Match a loose, slightly oversized button-down plaid shirt with your favorite pair of jeans. Wear a clean yet casual shoe, like flats, derbies or boots. Keep any jewelry or accessories to a minimum.

Casual chic
We dress the casual look up. Wear a fitted plaid tunic or dress over a pair of dark leggings(optional). Wrap a scarf or belt around your waist(optional) and add a few gold accessories, such as necklaces, bracelets, or earrings. Finish it off with a pair of fashionable heeled boots.
KMS special advice
You can spice up your outfit with plaid accessories. Look for a plaid handbag, scarf, or belt. Add the accessory to a simple plaid-free outfit that only uses solid prints like to a white t-shirt and jeans.

Preppy
The central piece might be a plaid trouser or skirt.

For the purist of the trend pick the tartan ones with traditional colors, like red and black or navy and black. Then pair it with a plain white blouse and complete the look with some simple black flats.
KMS special advice
With the "schoolgirl" tartan skirt, wear a pair of dark tights(replace the usual black knee-high socks  which remains a no-no for us).

Chic
Statement heels
and accessories of course!
Some mix and match even allowed

Queens, now that all is said please join our cause and plead for plaid!
